Some folks think Romney’s religion, Mormonism, disqualifies him for the job of the presidency. “It is bonkers,” they say. “How could you vote for a man who believes such idiotic things?”
Well, I am not going to vote for him. But not because of his religion.
One could make the case that one should vote for politicians with kooky religious ideas. If they satisfy their itch for craziness in their religion — in the “metaphysical” realm — they might not so readily import craziness into their career realm, into policy.
I have known too many secular humanists whose government policy positions were ruled by the whimsy of make-believe and fairy tale. We don’t need more of that kind of thing, surely.
